Location: Central London (office-based, 4 days per week, 1 day remote)
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 base, OTE £75,000 – £85,000
Why this role?
- Lead from the front: Be the first outbound sales hire dedicated to the small and medium sector, building this commercial function from scratch.
- Write the playbook: Turn early product interest into a highly repeatable, paid sales motion that will form the blueprint for future sales hires.
- Direct commercial impact: Work closely with the founding team and early customers, directly influencing the product roadmap based on real-world market feedback.
- True ownership: Gain an equity stake in a highly capital-efficient, fast-growing AI startup.
About the company
Our client is an early-stage AI software company building an automation platform for UK professional service clients. Their technology acts as an intelligent operating system, handling high-volume administrative tasks, communication, and workflows to free up staff.
With active pilot programs already running successfully across the UK, they are now ready to establish their repeatable, outbound commercial sales engine.
The opportunity
This is an entrepreneurial, building-phase role rather than a position in an established sales machine. The product is functional, proven in pilots, and highly valued by early users. Your objective is to turn this early momentum into a predictable portfolio of paying clients.
You will own the full sales cycle from initial contact to close and personally guide your first cohort of customers through onboarding to ensure they succeed. Reporting directly to the co-founder, you will turn your daily sales activity into the official commercial playbook that the next generation of sales representatives will follow.
What you will be doing
- Outbound prospecting: Managing a target list of independent businesses, making 40 to 60 structured calls a day to secure software demonstrations.
- Product demonstrations: Running concise, interactive live software demonstrations and converting prospects into paid trials.
- Onboarding & customer success: Personally managing your first customer wins from signature to billing, assisting with basic data loading, system configuration, and raising feature tickets with the engineering team.
- Playbook development: Documenting objection handling, pricing models, and successful scripts to build a repeatable sales blueprint.
What success looks like
- Month 3: You have secured your first two to three customers, with at least one fully live and billing, and have identified a predictable closing sequence.
- Month 6: You have established a small portfolio of active paying clients and a structured, documented sales process.
- Month 12: The sales motion is reliable enough to allow the company to hire and successfully train additional sales representatives using your playbook.
About you
- Sales experience: Proven track record in full-cycle B2B sales.
- SME focus: Experience closing sales with SME’s in relevant sectors—professional services, POS / payments, PropTech.
- Hands-on software exposure: Practical experience using artificial intelligence tools or automated workflows (such as custom prompt engineering, automated flows, or side projects) to optimise your own day-to-day work.
- Presentation skills: Ability to run highly engaging, brief live demonstrations on video calls without relying on generic slide decks.
- Commercial fluency: Ability to build and present clear return-on-investment arguments using realistic business metrics.
- Resilience: Comfortable making structured cold calls, managing rejection, and working through the natural challenges of an early-stage product.
This role is not for you if
- You require a large volume of inbound marketing leads or a predefined territory.
- Your primary sales experience is with enterprise procurement or long-cycle corporate deals.
- You prefer a finished, polished product with a pre-established sales script.
